India Has Taken Globally Acknowledged Initiative of Energy Transition: R K Singh

During their visit to the International Solar Alliance (ISA Secretariat) in Gurugram, Shri R. K. Singh (Indian Minister of Power and New and Renewable Energy) and H.E. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the ISA Assembly and President of the European Commission, addressed industry on solar energy development.

The dignitaries addressed industry leaders before taking part in a panel debate on solar energy development.  Many other dignitaries were present there at the meet.

India has adopted the globally acknowledged initiative of energy transformation, according to Shri R K Singh, President of the ISA Assembly. Now is the time for all nations to work together to address each other’s difficulties.

“India and Europe are intimately connected in the battle against climate change,” said the President of the European Commission in her keynote address. India and Europe have both taken the initial steps toward achieving net-zero emissions. Solar power will be critical in reaching this aim in both India and Europe. In order to promote solar energy, India and the EU must work together more closely. We can share our expertise on how to fund, promote, and install solar energy, as well as how to assure worldwide supply chains for solar panel materials and materials.

According to the Secretary, Ministry of New Renewable and Energy, Government of India, the world community is increasingly trusting the International Solar Alliance as a critical tool in the battle against climate change. He claimed that the President of the European Commission’s visit to ISA headquarters would result in a renewed commitment from governments all over the world to support ISA’s work.

ISA’s DG remarked during the debate that India’s partnership with the EC and EU Member States is based on the synergistic multiplier impact. This is where solar can be made more economical, accessible, and equitable.

CEOs of EDF-India and Tata Power, Greenko, Reliance Power, Schneider Electric, Tata Power, and Vikram Sun were among the industry executives in attendance. They discussed crucial concerns in the development of solar energy.

The European Commission and the International Solar Alliance have worked closely together since the Alliance’s inception. At COP24 2018, the International Solar Alliance and the European Union signed a joint statement to promote solar energy. During his participation at the ISA Assembly in October 2021, H.E. Frans Timmermans announced a 1 million euro EU-funded project.

Its goal was to deepen the EU’s relationship with the International Solar Alliance, its Member States, and the EU’s intellectual, financial, and economic sectors. Seven EU member nations are now members of the ISA: France, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden, Germany, Italy, and Greece. The Presidents and Co-Presidents of ISA are France and India.

German decides to show the world; 80% energy sourcing from Renewables

Green Globe Awards

Germany wants to use 80 percent renewable energy in total electricity consumption by 2030. The German government has passed the so-called “Easter Package. The most significant set of adjustments to German energy policy since competitive auctions were introduced in 2017.

Germany intends to install 10 GW of new onshore wind energy every year starting in 2025. The government proposes increasing yearly auction volumes to up to 12 GW in order to achieve this expansion in onshore wind.

The package significantly upped Germany’s offshore wind ambitions, implying that by 2025, the country will have built more than 10 GW of additional wind each year. In light of the conflict in Ukraine, Germany’s government has emphasized the need for renewable energy for the country’s energy security. Renewables, according to Finance Minister Christian Lindner, are “freedom energies.”

From 2025, 10 GW of new onshore wind will be installed each year.

Changes to Germany’s Renewable Energy Law (EEG) are at the heart of the package. It will codify a new renewable energy target of 80% of total power consumption by 2030. The package does this by adjusting annual auction volumes and annual wind energy installation targets. Germany plans to install 10 GW of new onshore wind every year starting in 2025.

Annual auction volumes will be increased to up to 12 GW per year to make this possible. Germany would have 115 GW of onshore wind by 2030 if current trends continue.

The definition of renewable energies as an issue of overriding public interest and public security lies at the heart of the Easter Package. This will expedite the approval of new renewable energy projects and shorten the time it takes for legal challenges to be resolved. The term does not include military concerns. Grid planning will be coordinated with the rapid increase of renewables, with 36 new grid expansions and optimization projects being added.

Germany ready to tackle every hurdle in the project

According to German Economy and Energy Minister Robert Habeck, The biggest hurdles to the expansion are supply chain interruptions, rising international pricing for raw materials and components, and a probable scarcity of insufficiently skilled personnel. He promised to work closely with the German wind sector to overcome these obstacles and meet the ambitious new volume targets.

To mitigate the impact of growing electricity prices on businesses and households, the German government decided to abolish the EEG tax, which had previously been paid by the electrical consumption, and instead fund renewable.

One Day Power Outage For Industries As Power Holidays Declared By The Andhra Pradesh Government!

Green Globe Awardshttps://www.crespai.com/

As per an official report, the state of Andhra Pradesh is facing an approx of 40-50 MU deficit per day and therefore, with effect from April 08, 2022 to April 22, 2022, there will be a one-day power outage scheduled once a week for the industries in the advancement of power holidays. This will be happening for the first time in the state after bifurcation.

According to Harnath Rao, the Chairman and Managing Director for Southern Power Distribution Corporation Limited, the scheduled power cuts are going to be implemented for industries that come under SPDCL in the state. A list of 253 processing industries is being advised to consume only 50% of their needed electricity requirements.

Harnath Rao further added, that power holidays in the form of one day power cut in a week is announced for 1696 industries. In his statement he urged all the owners of the industries to opt for a one day power holiday in addition to the weekly holiday. This will be implemented and in force for all the industries from the 8th April to 22nd April, he also explained.

This action of power outage came as unavoidable and as a necessary measure in order to meet the shortage between demand and supply of power in the state, as said by Harnath Rao.

Also, the electricity distribution companies are also facing a hard time to supply nine hours of power distribution to agriculture sector and there is also an urgent need to uninterrupted power supply to commercial as well as domestic customers.

As per the official report of an electricity supply official, around 253 million units of electricity were consumed on 1st April and there was a purchase of 64 million units from the outside markets. According to the data, there has been a drastic increase in the consumption and demand of power supply as compared to last few couple of years. Also, there is a big shortage and deficit of 40-50 MU units in the electricity supply faced on a daily basis.

Therefore, this power outage measure by Andhra Pradesh Government can surely come as a rescue in times of this increasing gap between the demand and supply of electricity in the state.

India Taking Leap Forward In Renewable Energy

Recently, India’s Ministry of Renewable Energy has signed an ambitious strategic partnership agreement with IREA in the field of renewable energy. Currently, India is already amongst the fastest adopters of renewable energy with installed capacity of over 100 GW.

Under this partnership, IRENA will facilitate knowledge sharing from India on scaling-up renewable energy and clean energy technologies as well as support India’s efforts to advance cost-effective decarbonisation through the development of domestic green hydrogen. Main focus will be given to green hydrogen’s potential role in India’s energy transition journey with exploring export opportunities in coming future.

India has been among the torch bearers when it comes to advocating for energy transition. Whether it is about initiating International Solar Alliance(ISA) or keeping a ambitious target of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

“India is a renewable energy powerhouse and a country whose energy transition actions speak louder than their words,” said Francesco La Camera IRENA Director-General.

With tremendous renewable energy potential as well as commitment towards clean energy, India has long way to go. This partnership can hopefully act as right step forward in achieving India’s commitment towards clean and green energy.
