India Adds 10 GW Solar Capacity in 2022

According to Mercom Communications India, Solar power generation in India is expected to rise by an extraordinary 210 percent to 10 gigawatts by 2021. Mercom Communications India is a subsidiary of Mercom Capital Group, a US-based investment firm.

In CY 2021, India installed a record 10 GW of solar capacity. When compared to the previous year’s 3.2 gigawatts, this is a 210 percent increase. Newly installed solar capacity in 2021 set a new high and accounted for 62% of overall power generation growth in 2021, according to the report. Only 68 percent of the total installations in the calendar year 2021 came from the top 10 solar power producers, according to research from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). Utility-scale solar developers Renew Power and Adani Green were the most well-known.

Arctech Solar was the leading provider of solar trackers in 2021, while Sungrow was the leading seller of solar inverters. In 2021, rooftop solar power capacity grew by 1.7 GW. Tata Power Solar installed the most rooftop solar panels, with a 20 percent share of the market.

Solar engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) service providers reported a rise in projects in 2021 compared to the previous year, according to research. Sterling & Wilson was the year’s top EPC supplier, followed closely by Siemens Gamesa and Tata Power Solar, according to the survey.

As compared to prior years, the number of open-access solar installations climbed by 222%. It was the second-best year in the company’s history. Imports of solar panels will rise by a whopping 641% in 2021. For the second consecutive year, LONGi Solar was the leading module provider in India.
